Social Problems Affecting our Vulnerable Populations

Social problems affect both rural and urban communities. Similar to other locales, the list of predominant social problems in San Angelo include, domestic violence, unplanned pregnancy, unemployment, obstacles to affordable housing and adequate health care, and isolation of elderly residents, to name just a few.

Often social problems arise when people hold very different opinions about how to handle certain situations such as the growing divide between rich and poor. Some believe that implementing a “living wage” is one solution to the problem. Others believe tax cuts to lower middle-class tax rates will significantly boost worker’s wages. It is these types of strong disagreements on how to solve problems that create divides in social groups.

Consequently, we at Angelo Pathways strive to find new, effective ways to solve the challenges a myriad of social problems pose to the vulnerable populations of San Angelo and surrounding communities.
